The Lancaster Inferno traveled into the traditionally unfriendly soccer confines, otherwise known as home to WPSL powerhouses New England Mutiny and SoccerPlus Reds, and came away with results that some in the soccer community may categorize as stunning.

"To travel into the Mutiny stadium and shut them out, much less even win seems to be somewhat of an anomally. From what I understand the Mutiny have never lost at home.  As you can imagine I am thrilled to death with the teams performance" according to Doug Harris, Inferno head coach. "Last year, we were in New Britain to play the Reds in the first round of the playoffs losing the game so to be back here a year later and come away with the win...no complaints here" continued Harris.

Could the Inferno's first three games be any tougher? The Inferno opened their 2009 campaign hosting the Boston Aztec team that seemed fully loaded with players aspiring to make the WPS Boston Breakers roster...5 players traveled to Lancaster for the game with pro contracts in hand. After scoring first on a 40 yard bomb from Teresa Rynier, Lancaster held off the onslaught of Aztec attackers for over a half but eventually gave way to three consecutive goals, losing the contest 3-1. Playing the New England Mutiny and the SoccerPlus teams next provided seemingly little relief. "I told the ladies that for us to come away with some points whether with ties or wins would be very important.  They heard me say that ties would be a good result for us on the road and they apparently took exception to that..." admits Harris. "For us to be 2-1 right now is very encouraging and gives us something to build on...I am somewhat concerned now that we don't let down. Getting points every game is critical and that will be our focus going forward."

Lancaster will play host to Central Delaware on Saturday June 13 at Hempfield High School at 6:30 PM.
