Middleton Yahara Soccer Club Lady Blues join the WPSL

MIDDLETON, WI – MYSC (Middleton Yahara Soccer Club) is proud to announce that one of the top-rated leagues in the world of women's soccer, the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL), will add the MYSC Lady Blues to their 2008 expansion line-up. The MYSC Lady Blues will play in the Midwest Conference alongside 2 teams from St. Louis, and 2 from Chicago.

"We are thrilled to have MYSC join the league," said WPSL Commissioner Jerry Zanelli. "The team has already established a presence in the region as one of the top women's teams with back to back championships in the WPL, and their move to the WPSL is a logical progression. For years there has been an interest from the Madison area to put a team in the league, we are excited that it has finally come to fruition."

The 2008 Blues' roster will include many MYSC alumni, as well as many of the finest women players in the Midwest, including players from many of the top D1, D2 and D3 programs in the region.  As with the last two seasons, the team will be anchored by former US National Team player Nancy Rohrman, and the rest of the explosive MYSC attack affectionately called the "Blue Machine" for their precise, attractive style of play. Over the past two summers the Blues have won the 2006 Women's Tri State Premier League Championship (undefeated), the 2006 Women's Tri-State Premier League Cup, and the 2007 Women's Premier League Championship (undefeated).

The Blues front office is very busy finalizing the details on the head coach, sponsorship and home pitch. The team will continue to use the state-of-the-art MYSC HWY Q training grounds for all practices and try-outs. Updates will be available at http://www.myscladyblues.com.

MYSC Executive Director Ben John says, "As with most great pioneering efforts, this certainly has historic implications. I am ecstatic about this opportunity on a couple of fronts. First, we continue to expand our offerings, thereby extending the boundaries of what we make available to our players, parents and community at large. Second, it is certainly apropos, based on a strong tradition of excellence in women's soccer, that MYSC should be the first club in the state of Wisconsin to secure this opportunity on behalf of a community that has consistently produced great soccer talent. We are elongating some wonderful local careers and the players of today and tomorrow get to learn and experience the sport through some of its most notable alumni. MYSC is proud to sponsor this ground breaking effort to reinstitute the women's game at the highest level."

MYSC President Paul Lackner says, "This is an unprecedented opportunity for women's sports in the Dane County area. The WPSL is currently considered one of the 2-3 top women's leagues in the world. This will truly be the highest level of women's soccer in the region, and an opportunity for local talent to shine in the national spotlight. On the pitch, this 'Blue Machine' plays an extremely attractive brand of soccer, consequently it will be a great way for all Madison youth soccer players, but especially young female athletes, to see what it is really like to play at this high of a level - up close and in person."
