WPSL teams continue to battle for points during the final stretch of the 2016 season. With only 3 weeks remaining and regional championships on the horizon, which teams are currently ahead of the race!?
In the Northwest Region, Seattle Sounders take the lead with 18 points, but right behind them with a game-in-hand stands OSA Football Club with 16 pts. Closely following, CU Diamonds hold 14pts in 3rd place.
The NorCal region has seen a phenomenal season so far. With a 4 way race between 4 excellent teams, the title is up for grabs! Currently sitting in first place, Fresno Freeze FC has a total of 19pts. Second place, California Storm with 13pts and a game-in-hand, will play first place Fresno on July 2nd. The tight standings will provide an exciting game between the two. But that’s not all, standing in 3rd place, San Ramon ties with San Francisco Nighthawks at 10pts, however both have played less games than the Storm and Fresno.
Coastal holds another race between three teams. Beach Futbol Club leads with 16 pts but has played one less game than 2nd place SoCal FC, who sit with a close 15pts. L.A Villa F.C. chase the leaders with 12 pts in 3rd place.
PacSouth leaders, FC Tucson Women (14pts) have played 3 games more than 2nd place, San Diego Sea Lions who are on the tails of FC Tucson with only a point difference.
Southwest includes the incredible story of new comers, FC Dallas who have taken their region by storm, playing 10 and winning 10, earning themselves 30 pts and a 7pt lead over 2nd place, Texas Spurs FC who have also fought hard so far, standing with a deserving 23pts.
The Heartland region is home to defending national champions, Chicago Red Star Reserves. The team continues to lead the region with 15pts and stands undefeated. Des Moines Menace is looking to chase the national champions, having played only 3 games they have earnt 9 points, and so hope to continue gaining points that will help them make the regional championship.
In the Valley region, WPSL new entity, Dayton Dutch Lions have had a terrific beginning in their WPSL future. Leading the region with 15 points and a 8point gap between themselves and second place, Cincinnati Sirens, puts them in a great place at this point in the season.
Great Lakes sees Motor City FC taking charge with 0 losses out of 9 games played, standing in first place with 25pts, followed by Michigan Chill SC who sit in 2nd place with 13pts.
New England leaders for the 2nd year in a row, Boston Breakers Reserves have a current total of 24pts. A huge 14 pts between themselves and 2nd place, Boston Breakers College (10pts).
Mid-Atlantic region looks to be a battle between Syracuse Lady Knights who currently lead with 13points but are being closely followed by 2nd place, New York Athletic Club (10pts).
Tri-State leaders, Philly Fever look to have made 1st place theirs for the keeping with an impressive 21points, 7 games played and 7 games won. Leaving 2nd place, NJ Wildcats 9 points behind them.
In the Colonial region, a battle between the two teams, Washington Spirit Academy and Washington Spirit Reserves continues as the Academy sits above them in 1st place but with only a 5pt lead and 3 games more than the reserves.
The all new Carolinas region has brought an intense region to the WPSL. Currently standing with a 3 way race, the region is hard fought. Leading the pack so far, Carolina Elite Cobras have 11pts, however, Lake Norman Eclipse are just 1 point behind them, sitting in 2nd place with 10 pts and closely behind them in 3rd place with 9pts stands Carolina Rapids.
Southeast also holds an interesting race for first place between tied leaders, Atlantic Siverbacks and Memphis Lobos who both have 18pts.
The Sunshine region is currently lead by the undefeated Florida Krush who stand with 15pts at the top. Although, Orlando Kicks are not far behind them in 2nd place with 13pts. Following closely behind 1st and 2nd, sits 3rd place, Tampa Bay Hellenic with 11pts.
As the teams look to complete their regular season games, the WPSL will be keeping track of all results and changes to find who will be crowned regional champions.
